Wyedean School and Sixth Form Centre

Student Leadership

To be the best school for our community, we need to understand how it feels for our students on a day to day to basis. At Wyedean, we value student voice and encourage our students to be reflective critical thinkers. Where better to nurture this skill than at Student Council.

Our Student Council is run by our students in years 7-11. At Sixth form, we have developed a Student Committee which has the same remit but is more appropriate for young adults.

The student council is led by two year 11 students who are elected annually by teachers and peers. Each tutor group has at least one tutor group representative who meets with their Head of Year monthly. From this group, two students are selected to attend the Student Council as year group reps.

The student council meets fortnightly either via MS Teams or in-person during lunchtime. They discuss a variety of issues and feed this back to Mr Thomas, Vice-Principal. Mr Thomas together with the Senior Leadership Team subsequently work with the student council to embed their suggestions.
