A Level and BTEC results

Wyedean Sixth Form Centre Press Release August 2017

Excellence continues in Post 16 education with top grades and places at high performing Wyedean Sixth Form Centre in this year’s 2017 results.

The academic success of 2016 continues at Wyedean School Sixth Form centre in 2017 with an excellent performance of over half of all students achieving grades A*-B at A Level, 80% have achieved grades A*-C, with an overall pass rate of 99% for A Level entries. This is in the context of much tougher, new two year linear A Level qualifications being examined for the first time in England and a large cohort of students sitting A Levels and BTEC at Wyedean Sixth Form Centre. Notable successes at Wyedean include outstanding performance in A*-B grades including a range of subjects including English, Maths and the Arts. This compares extremely well within Gloucestershire and across the border as well as nationally. Wyedean Sixth Form centre continues to be the beacon of outstanding Post 16 education in the Forest of Dean and Welsh borders and record number of applicants for places this September are testament to this success. The pass rate for BTEC is 100% with outstanding “distinctions” achieved in a range of subjects including, Business, Hospitality, Music, Performing Arts and PE.

Students have been hugely successful in their university placements with a record number of applications to UCAS for the school. Students have obtained places at Russell group universities on courses such as Maths, English Literature, History, Engineering and Medicine as well as a range of work-related degrees. A number of students have also achieved their chosen employment careers and apprenticeships through these excellent Post 16 results. This is an outstanding achievement for the school and reflects the hard work of students, staff, parents and governors.

Assistant Principal, Director of Sixth Form Johnathan Lane said, “This is an excellent set of results again and is a testament to the commitment and dedication of the teachers and hard work of students at Wyedean School. At Wyedean we appreciate that success can only be achieved through excellent teaching, hard-working students and a supportive environment at both school and home”.

Principal Rob Ford said, “This is a great day in school for anyone involved in education celebrating hard work, achievement and success of our young people who are looking forward to their future. The success of Post 16 education at Wyedean School is reflected not only in the 2017 excellent results and the record number of applications for this September from across Monmouthshire and the Forest of Dean but also in our commitment to an education that prepares and equips these brilliant students for the next stages of life”.
