Wyedean Parent Governor?

Dear Parent/Carer

Would you like to become a Wyedean Parent Governor?

We currently have two vacancies for Parent Governors at Wyedean School and Sixth Form Centre and the Board of Governors is seeking candidates accordingly.

Parent Governors are nominated and elected by the parents of Wyedean. Any parent may apply.

Joining the Governing Body as a Parent Governor offers you the opportunity to make a real contribution to the life and work of the School and its provision of the best secondary education in the area.

Governors play a key role in the leadership of the School, setting strategic priorities and in raising standards, including the appointment of key staff, overseeing the budget and financial performance of the School and monitoring progress in the curriculum and its delivery. The Board also holds to account the School’s Leadership Team for the School’s performance and outcomes and takes care of the well-being of all Teaching and Support staff and students – the whole Wyedean family.

All Governors at Wyedean are expected to attend Full Governing Body meetings 5-6 times per year, after school, and also join at least one of the Sub-Committees; Partnership and Wellbeing; Resources, Staffing and Teaching Learning and Assessment. Most Governors also have a Learning Area or Year Group link, in order to offer support to staff and students and so contribute to the improvement of the School’s overall performance.

The National Governance Association generally recommends that experience and/or skills in Finance, Human Resources and Education are desired. At Wyedean, we value these, but regard enthusiasm, availability and a personal interest in the School, its success and key place in the heart of our local community to also be especially important.

Governance at Wyedean is unremunerated but very rewarding.

If you would like more information about becoming a Parent Governor please contact Piera Cassettari, Governor Support Officer on 01291 625340 x 285, or by email to:cassettarip@wyedean.gloucs.sch.uk.

Or if you would like to attend a meeting to see what Governors do – there is a Partnership & Wellbeing Committee meeting on Monday 11th December 2018 at 5.15pm and a Full Governing Body meeting on Tuesday 12th December 2018 at 5.30pm. You are welcome to attend as an observer.  Please let Piera know if you would like to attend.

If you wish to nominate yourself as a Parent Governor, please complete form:

Parent Governor Nomination Form  and return it by 3.30pm Friday 14th December 2018 to the Governor Support Officer.

If you think you can offer time, energy and skills to Wyedean and its Governance, please apply.

Yours sincerely

Andy Lord
