World Book Day 2019
World Book Day 2019 really rocked at Wyedean! This year we welcomed Amy Sampson from the Forest of Dean Rocks group to deliver a book rock painting workshop as our main event in the library at lunchtime. Amy and our wonderful artist in residence Liz Kayll shared some amazing tips to create a spectacular array of “book rocks” to adorn our new study garden. Other activities included “Blind Date with a Book” and several students were lucky to win the chance to unwrap their very own book to keep (huge thanks to all those who generously donated beautiful new books for this activity!). We also enjoyed a range of games including “Hot Shot Hagrid” (thanks to Mr Rowe and Miss Broomfield) and our “Who Am I? treasure hunt style quiz. Miss Barbato and her merry team of face painters raised some extra fund for the food bank and the library. Thanks and well done to all those who took part in all the fun. Congratulations to Donnie Sherwood for winning the prize of a “literary hamper” in our prize draw.
We continued with our annual tradition of offering students and staff the chance to have some fun dressing up as a favourite book character. As usual we had some eye catching costumes on display – Mr Ford looked resplendent in his Tolstoy beard and George Brown 10B made a spectacular “whomping willow”! The prize for best tutor group team effort went to Miss Anderson’s 7A team, who gave us a brilliant Lemony Snicket team effort.
Thank you so much for all those who supported our World Book Day celebrations, helping us raise valuable funds for the very worthy Book Aid International charity and our much loved and newly decorated school library. Our day was “practically perfect in every way!”
