“Read for Good”, Summer Reading Challenge
This summer Wyedean students will be getting involved in some very exciting reading adventures to motivate their summer reading and help the community at the same time. All KS3 students including our new year 7s are taking part in the “Read for Good” sponsored read. This charity motivates schools and communities to read for fun, and in the process of collecting sponsors for their reading the money raised brings the power of stories to children in hospital via mobile bookcases and resident storytellers. Wyedean has supported this great charity for several years and since its first Readathon has raised a staggering £1,628.39 for this brilliant cause. Find out more at: Read for Good. Sponsors can make their donations online click: HERE
All sponsor cards should be returned to the library or English teachers by Friday 5th September.
“Reading is like flying – it can carry you to different worlds. So hurray for Read for Good, which helps launch so many children on that exciting journey.” - Julia Donaldson
Alongside this our year 7’s are invited to pop along to their local library to sign up for the exciting “Space Chase” 2019 Summer Reading Challenge. Inspired by the 50th anniversary of the first moon landing, the thrilling mission is to read six books from the local library. Getting involved is also a great way to enhance school’s reading initiatives and involve parents and the wider community, as well as helping prevent the trend for children’s reading to dip in the summer holidays. It is also a great way of getting a head start on Accelerated Reader quizzing success! The challenge launches on Saturday 13th July. Find out more HERE.
