A Levels and BTEC results 2018
Solid results for Wyedean students in a reformed & challenging Post 16 landscape
Wyedean School community is celebrating today another set of strong results in A Levels and BTECs that reflects the hard work and talents of our young people supported by the professionalism, tireless efforts & dedication of our staff, parents & governors in our school community. Against the backdrop of the national context in England of reformed linear A levels and universities making more unconditional offers, the number of higher grades awarded to students at Wyedean bucks this trend. Wyedean School is pleased with the number of students awarded first place UCAS choice at university as well as the range of universities and degree courses including Russell Group, Veterinary Medicine, Maths, English, Social Sciences, Science, MFL and the Arts. The number of A*-B grades achieved are 35% for A Level with a near 100% pass rate. There are a number of students in Sixth Form who have also achieved places on apprenticeships, college courses and are going on to employment. This success reflects the inclusive and supportive ethos of Post 16 education at Wyedean School recognised in our January 2018 OfSTED report.
Wyedean School is one of a handful of large Sixth Form centres in the South West and border area that continues to offer a broad academic and vocational curriculum and supports a huge range of A Levels and vocational courses in the curriculum including languages and the arts. We are a selected pilot school for the prestigious global International Baccalaureate (IB) and we intend to offer their IB Career Programme as part of our qualifications and curriculum provision from 2019. We are committed to 21st century holistic education & life-long learning for all our young people as global citizens.
Director of Sixth Form and Assistant Principal, Johnathan Lane said, "These very positive results represents another strong and solid year for our students especially given the additional rigorous demands on students & schools from the reforms of linear A Levels in England and the new specifications for BTEC. Our students have achieved a great deal individually over their time at Wyedean and we wish them well for the next stages of their lives going forward".
Principal, Rob Ford said, "We are so proud of our remarkable young people at Wyedean and today is not only about celebrating their achievements with these results but also the opportunities they have taken to develop themselves as individuals through the wider curriculum which epitomises the Wyedean approach towards education. These young people going onto university, apprenticeships and employment are the inspirational role models for the students in the lower school and we have an incredible aspirational Post 16 model of excellent education at Wyedean School that continues to attract students from our communities in the Forest of Dean and Monmouthshire. These are great days in education to celebrate young people."
