Centres will be able to appeal results this Summer, in situations including where they have provided incorrect data, where they believe awarding bodies have used the wrong data, where awarding bodies have allocated or communicated results incorrectly and where they believe awarding bodies have not followed processes consistently and fairly.

Ofqual have confirmed that students will not be able to challenge their individual centre assessment grades, as any appeal would have to be undertaken by someone better placed than the student’s teachers to judge their likely grade if exams had taken place. In the unique circumstances of this summer, Ofqual do not believe there is any such person. There are also potential risks for other students in the cohort: if one student successfully appealed against their position in the rank order, it would have negative implications for other students who would, in turn, need to be given an opportunity to appeal.

In cases where a student or others have concerns about bias, discrimination or any other factor that suggests that a centre did not behave with care or integrity when determining the centre assessment grade and/or rank order information then these should be raised with their centre. In circumstances where it would be more appropriate to do so they can also be raised with awarding bodies directly. Evidence of bias or discrimination communicated to the exam board will be investigated as an allegation of malpractice/maladministration.

If you wish to raise an appeal based on evidence of bias or discrimination, please complete and return this form

13 July - Ofqual is currently consulting on statutory guidance for appeals and this includes proposals on the information awarding organisations should provide to Centres so they can decide whether to appeal. It also provides proposals for guidance on the circumstances in which an appeal might be allowed because the wrong data has been used in the standardisation process. You can find out more about the consultation and how to respond here

POST RESULTS SERVICES - n/a for summer 2020

If you would like to have an exam script re-viewed or would like to have sight of a script to help with future study, then the Exam Boards provide various Post Results Services.

There are strict Exam Board deadlines to process these requests, which must be adhered to.

All requests must be approved by the Exams Office and payment for the service should be made on ParentPay.  Applications cannot be processed without both paperwork and payment.

All services are summarised in the Schools External Appeals Policy. This and various supporting application documents, prices and deadlines for the current exam season can be downloaded below:
