It is a privilege to be the Principal of Wyedean School and Sixth Form Centre at an exciting time in this incredible school's history. Wyedean School provides the very best in terms of quality provision in the area. Our School and Post 16 Centre are equipped for exceptional C21st learning, embracing digital learning in how we study and gain our knowledge and understanding through an exciting curriculum. We offer an outstanding record of academic excellence in our examination results and success together with exceptional guidance and wellbeing support from our dedicated staff so all of our students will achieve their potential.
Our ethos as a school is entirely on the development of the whole student to meet the ever changing challenges and opportunities in a globalised society. We aim to ensure that everyone is given the opportunity to develop their individual talents and aptitudes within and beyond the classroom. Outstanding Teaching and Learning is at the core of our ethos and delivered by dedicated, professional specialist teachers. We believe that our students have the right to expect the highest quality of education and we are committed to providing exactly that education. Wyedean School is a vibrant, caring and supportive community that equips students with the best possible preparation for their future lives. As a result our students take advantage of opportunities to study, have new experiences, develop new skills, form lasting friendships and achieve academic success and healthy wellbeing. We expect our students to experience leadership skills, resilience and to develop the character skills for life beyond and after their time at Wyedean School.
Wyedean School and Sixth Form Centre is rightly recognised as a centre in the South West for academic high standards, aspirations and achievement. I look forward to the continuing collaborative partnership between students, staff, parents, and the community in order to support our objective of providing students with the best experience they can have during their school years at Wyedean.
It is one of our primary responsibilities as educators to ensure the next generation of leaders are prepared to take up their future roles and the development of student leadership is central to our ethos. Amongst our alumni, Wyedean has produced already one of the greatest modern children’s writers, an influential BBC political journalist and a major Hollywood actor. Wyedean students have many inspirational role models from the school to aspire towards. We are committed to the development and delivery of 21st century learning and education in a global context. Critical thinking, inquiry, challenge, independent learning and communication are some of the key 21st century World Class skills in our curriculum; we believe all students should develop and have the opportunity to use in their lives. Wyedean School is a Confucius hub for Mandarin, a centre for excellence for Classics and Latin in partnership with Bristol University and we are a DfID Global Lead Centre for international education. We have already started the process of becoming an International Baccalaureate World School. During the next two years we will be offering IB programmes as part of our commitment to World Class education, and all students will be receiving a holistic and enriching curriculum that gives them a love for learning and prepares them for life beyond Wyedean.
Wyedean School is a recognised beacon of educational excellence in the Forest of Dean, and Monmouthshire and we support partner schools through networks such as Challenge Partners and the West Gloucestershire school's group.
I welcome and invite you to look further at the success and story of Wyedean School on our website and to come and visit our school.
