Statements of Intent:
Drama is about imagination and feelings and it helps us to make sense of the world. It does this through the creation of imagined characters and situations, and the relationships and events that they encounter. Through engagement in drama, students apply their imaginations and draw upon their own personal experiences. Their increasing knowledge and understanding of how the elements of drama work enables them to effectively shape, express and share their ideas, feelings and responses, making use of language, space, symbol, allegory and metaphor.
Key Stage 3
Through stimuli which vary from Poetry, Film, Novels, Images, Situations, TV we aim to work on a half - termly basis in which we will follow the recognised process of Making, Performing and Responding through which we will explore the application of a wide variety of recognised Drama forms. Assessment will be an amalgam of Peer and Teacher with the focus firmly on verbal feedback by means of plenary discussions and analysis.

In Year 11 Students will prepare a response to a stimulus by means of Scripted, Devised or a combination of these elements.
Key Stage 5
At Key Stage 5 we further our Study of Drama and Theatre Studies through the Edexcel A-level Theatre Studies course. This 4 Unit course is a mixture of coursework, practical exploration and practical performance . In Year 12 Students study 2 Units both practically orientated resulting in performances for visiting examiners. In Year 13 students develop their own performance work and prepare for the written exam which draws together knowledge from the previous units.
In conjunction with other Creative Subjects Learning Area we stage a full scale musical production annually. Students have the opportunity to be involved in a singing, acting, dancing, playing or technical responsibilities. This is an ideal opportunity to make new friends across the school who share your passion for performance!
