Art

The art classrooms provide a vibrant haven for students to express themselves in an open, stimulating and nurturing environment. The broad curriculum encompasses a variety of disciplines (drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture) and we aim to develop visually literate individuals who are self-disciplined, have positive self-esteem in addition to cultivating thinking skills and creativity.

Key Stage 3

The National Curriculum for Art and Design allows the delivery of the subject to be dynamic and flexible. The possibilities of exploring different media, as well as different contexts and cultures are vast. Throughout each half term, pupils will explore a new theme, with its own expected outcome.

Key Stage 4

Art & Design is a broad course where candidates have the opportunity to work in a wide variety of materials and processes, including Fine Art (painting, drawing, sculpture, print-making, mixed media), Graphic Design and some Photography. Students work intensely on producing two coursework projects, followed by an exam unit. The workload is intense but the course is rewarding.

Key Stage 5

An enjoyable course which focuses on building students' technical skills as well as their ability to select and experiment with appropriate media. Students work intensely on mini workshops, coursework units, a personal investigation and examination units. It is expected that they have enthusiasm for the subject as well as a natural flair and a willingness to commit a significant of amount time.

Extra Curricular

At Key stage 3 we currently offer an extra curricular club for students who are deemed to be Gifted and Talented in the subject. Students across year 7, 8 and 9 are invited to join and attend once a fortnight. The club focuses on extending students' skills and provides them with the opportunity to work on tasks which are not featured within any of the Key Stage 3 schemes of work.
